Margarita Monday – How to use scraps for embellishments

Hello crafty friends!

What a beautiful weekend we just had! Now back to the grind….

For this Margarita Monday I wanted to repurpose scraps by creating handmade embellishments for card making and other crafts.

A video tutorial for this project is available on YouTube.

There is no specific way of creating these. They are really just playing with paper by cutting strips and using hole punches with different shapes. You can also use stickers, stamps, enamel dots, ribbon and just about anything you already have on hand to mash together little paper embellishments for your projects.

Below are some handmade cards I created using the embellishments that I made above. I added doilies, sequins and washi tape on precut and folded card bases.

SUPPLIES: This was tricky because I used mostly random older pieces from my stash that are no longer packaged and I cannot recall what they are from…I will do my best here!

Paper:

  • Variety of scrap paper from my stash
  • Doilies – my stash
  • Precut and folded blank cards – Recollections

Tools:

  • Hole Punches – mostly Martha Stewart, some from EK Success
  • Sequins – Darice Cream Sequins
  • Washi – Recollections
  • Tombow glue and Elmer’s craft bond
  • Foam tape
  • Enamel dots – my stash
  • Small rotary sentiments stamps – Amy Tangerine and Dear Lizzy
  • EK Success precision scissors
  • Westcott nonstick KleenEarth Scissors

These kind of embellishments are always fun to make and really help to lower my scrap paper supply. What do you do with your scraps?

Until next time XoXo!

Easter Eggs Using Scrap Paper

Hello crafty friends!

I wished to have been able to provide this post earlier but with everything I had going on I was unable to get this done on time. (SORRY!)

I hope everyone had a beautiful holiday weekend.

The video for this post is already up and available to watch on YouTube (search citygal papeterie to find it)

I have been trying to diminish a bit my scrap paper. I accumulate so much scrap paper and I am sure I am not alone when I say I have a hard time throwing out any piece of paper that could be used for something else!

I knew I wanted to use scraps to create Easter eggs and came up with this easy way to use scraps while still creating something nice and useful.

To create the eggs I simply cut strip of coordinating pattern and solid paper and gave it a torn or fringed edge. Then I adhered those strips to a larger scrap paper and cut out an oval that was traced using an ellipse stencil. The result was a variety of paper eggs in different colors that could be used for a multitude of projects. I used them as card embellishments but these could be used to fill in baskets or decorate baskets or treat boxes and bags. They could also be used for scrapbooking or even as cupcake toppers on string as pennants. The possibilities are really endless.
